Abstract

This repository contains the data and analysis outputs underlying the manuscript “Amplified threat of climate extremes on agricultural production due to unsuitable cropland expansion.” The dataset documents the analytical workflow used to assess how cropland expansion into agriculturally unsuitable regions amplifies flood exposure and flood-related agricultural losses at the global scale. The repository includes spatial and tabular datasets quantifying flood exposure over expanded croplands, country-level summaries of inundated suitable and unsuitable cropland expansion, and crop-specific estimates of flood-induced yield and production losses for maize, rice, wheat, and soybean. Scenario-based results evaluating flood-related production losses under alternative climate pathways and cropland allocation strategies are also provided. All datasets were generated using the methods described in the associated manuscript and are intended to support transparency, reproducibility, and reuse in studies of climate risk, agricultural land-use change, and food-system resilience.
