Abstract

The four netCDF files of this dataset contain novel and updated POLIPHON conversion factors to retrieve estimates of aerosol microphysical properties and CCN/INP concentration from profiles of aerosol optical properties measured by lidar and ceilometer. The dataset is presented and discussed in detail in Ansmann et al. (EGUsphere [preprint], 2026). The POLIPHON conversion factors are provided for 355, 532, 911, and 1064 nm wavelength and for mineral dust, marine, continental pollution, biomass burning smoke (tropospheric, fresh and aged stratospheric), and volcanic sulfate (fresh and aged stratospheric) aerosol types. Version v20260223: Corrected missing factor of 1000 in previous version (v20260122) in the extinction-to-volume and -surface area concentration conversion factors for the dust sites at 532 nm, for the continental pollution sites at 911 nm (AE1.1-1.5), and for the continental pollution sites at 532 nm (AE1.6-2.0). Version v20260420: Added mean conversion factors for tropospheric volcanic sulfate. Corrected wrong value of the mean coarse-mode dust extinction-to-volume conversion factor at 1064 nm wavelength.
