Video Demonstration of HOS-based Reliability Monitoring in Smart Grid Monitoring Scenarios
Abstract
This video dataset provides a visual demonstration of the measurement method developed in the doctoral thesis "Instrumental techniques for power quality monitoring". It showcases the real-time calculation of higher-order statistics (HOS) and application for reliability monitoring in Smart Grids. The signals were captured from the electrical network of the Escuela Técnica Superior de Algeciras (University of Cádiz). Measured Parameters: Voltage waveforms processed through Sliding Window and representation/analysis on the statistical domain. Key Insight: The video demonstrates how the HOS indices respond to real-world power quality variations in a public building environment. The experimental setup captures real-world voltage and current waveforms from the ETS Algeciras power grid. The HOS-based measurement procedure demonstrates superior performance in identifying non-Gaussian disturbances and phase coupling, which are invisible to standard power quality analyzers. Due to its inherent noise immunity and low computational burden, this method is proposed as a scalable solution for real-time monitoring in future Smart Grids. The video illustrates how the proposed scalable 2D indices effectively compress waveform deviations, enabling the detection of power quality disturbances as described in the paper "Reliability Monitoring Based on Higher-Order Statistics: A Scalable Proposal for the Smart Grid, DOI: 10.3390/en12010055.
