Abstract

Background: This study aimed to investigate serum concentrations of fatty acid binding protein-6 (FABP6), 4-hydroxynonenal (4-HNE), 8-hydroxy-2’deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG), neurotrophin-3 (NTF-3) and cathelicidin (LL-37) in patients with and without preeclampsia. Methods: A total of 64 women with preeclampsia (32 of whom with severe features of preeclampsia) and 24 normotensive pregnant women were eligible for the study. Clinical and obstetric features and serum levels of FABP6, 4-HNE, 8-OHdG, NTF-3 and LL-37 were evaluated in each subject. Fındıngs: The study found that serum FABP6, 4-HNE, 8-OHdG, NTF-3, and LL-37 levels were significantly higher in women with pre-eclampsia compared to normotensive pregnant women. Furthermore, subgroup analyses revealed that FABP6 and LL-37 levels were significantly higher in cases of severe pre-eclampsia compared to cases of non-severe pre-eclampsia. Conclusions: The data of the present study suggested that higher levels of circulating FABP6, 4-HNE, 8-OHdG, NTF-3 and LL-37 are associated with an increased risk of developing preeclampsia and these markers might be involved in preeclampsia pathogenesis.
