Abstract

I am the architect of the Joy Project, which includes two foundational frameworks: the Socio-Emotional Communication Engine (SECE) and the Emotional Modeling Engine (EME). I have recently published my research, "Rethinking Emotion in AI," on Zenodo to share these ideas with the broader community. My Goal: I am looking for enthusiastic, well-educated students or researchers who would like to serve as the "technical hands" for this project. I have used AI as a primary tool to help me organize my 50 years of experience into these formal architectures, and I am now looking to hand this work off to a younger generation to continue its development. The Opportunity: I believe my project could serve as a unique "Community Partner" case study for students interested in: Human-Centered AI: How can we move past "cold" chatbots to truly empathetic systems? Citizen Science: How can a lifelong tech enthusiast and senior citizen contribute to high-level AI theory? AI for Well-being: Developing the SECE Care website as a prototype for emotional support.
