Abstract

This extended abstract presents a narrative literature review on cadmium contamination in Brazilian cemeteries and its biological risks under the One Health framework. The study analyzes data from 2022 to 2025, highlighting elevated cadmium levels in soils and groundwater across multiple regions. It discusses ecotoxicological effects, including cytotoxicity and mutagenicity in bioindicator organisms, and emphasizes the environmental impact intensified by increased burials during the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings underscore the need for integrated environmental monitoring and public health strategies to mitigate risks associated with cemetery pollution.
