Abstract

As India marches toward its centennial of independence in 2047, the vision of a "Viksit Bharat" (Developed India) serves as the primary catalyst for national policy. Tourism has been identified as a critical pillar of this transformation due to its massive multiplier effect on employment, foreign exchange, and regional development. This paper examines the current National Tourism Policy, major flagship programs like Swadesh Darshan 2.0 and PRASHAD, and the strategic missions designed to position India as a $3 trillion tourism economy. By integrating sustainability, digitalisation, and the "Whole of Government" approach, India aims to become a global leader in diverse segments ranging from spiritual to adventure tourism.
