Abstract

Amarbel or *Cuscuta reflexa is a parasitic twining plant that is extensively found throughout the Indian subcontinent and has long been valued for its many therapeutic uses. Its ethnobotanical significance, phytochemical profile, medicinal potential, and present position in marketed formulations are all intended to be thoroughly examined in this classic review. According to ethnobotanical records, it is widely used in ancient medical systes like Ayurveda, Unani, and Siddha to treat conditions including inflammation, wounds, alopecia, liver problems, and jaundice. According to phytochemical analyses, it contains active components like Flavonoids, Alkaloids, and lignan that support its pharmacological activities, which include anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective, antioxidant, and hepatoprotective properties. A summary of the several medicinal and cosmetic products that use extracts from Cuscuta reflexa is also included in the assessment, demonstrating the plant's increasing market importance. This evaluation highlights the medicinal potential of Cuscuta reflexa as well as its potential for additional study and product development by fusing traditional knowledge with contemporary scientific understanding. Cuscuta reflexa also known as Akashvalli or Dodder, is a member of the Convolvulaceae family. It lacks roots and leaves. The plant is found all over the world, with roughly six species found in India. It can occasionally totally cover trees bushes when it develops on prickly or other vegetation. This Herb studied as antitumor activity, Hepatoprotective activity, antioxidant activity. Thus, this is a significant medicinal plant with a wide range of pharmacological properties. Additionally, the plant is used in a number of commercially available Ayurvedic and herbal remedies that target liver function, hair development, and overall vigor. Standardization, quality control, and clinical validation concerns are still not sufficiently addressed despite their widespread traditional use and new pharmacological data. In order to support Cuscuta reflexa rational use and future pharmaceutical development, this review critically gathers classical references, ethnobotanical uses, phytochemical constituents, therapeutic applications, and marketed formulations.
