Formulation and Evaluation of HerbalToothpaste from Achyranthes Aspera
Abstract
Achyranthes aspera extract was used in the formulation of a herbal toothpaste, which was assessed for stability, antibacterial activity, and physicochemical characteristics. Glycerin and sorbitol were employed as humectants, carboxymethyl cellulose and guar gum as thickeners, and calcium carbonate as an abrasive. Alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and phenolic substances were found using phytochemical screening. With a neutral pH of 7.03 ± 0.21, good spreadability, moderate foaming ability, and an acceptable moisture level, the formulation had a smooth, uniform appearance. At 10 mg/mL, the antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus demonstrated a maximal inhibition zone of 6 mm. 30-day stability tests showed no discernible alterations. According to the study, toothpaste made from Achyranthes aspera is a reliable and secure herbal dental care product.
