Abstract

Web accessibility ensures that digital content and services are usable by people with diverse abilities. Although WCAG 2.2 provides a clear framework for accessible design, achieving consistent conformance in modern, large-scale, and dynamic web applications remains challenging. Artificial Intelligence (AI) can enhance accessibility workflows by improving issue detection, remediation guidance, content support, and continuous monitoring. However, AI cannot fully understand user intent or assistive technology behavior and therefore cannot replace human-centered accessibility practices. This paper argues for a responsible, augmentative use of AI—positioning it as a co-pilot within WCAG-aligned governance frameworks to improve accessibility at scale while preserving accuracy, accountability, and human dignity.
