Surgical Management and Predictive Factors of Infected Pseudoaneurysms in Native Arteriovenous Fistulas: A Four-Year Retrospective Study in Bouake
Abstract
The question this study addressed: This retrospective study analyzes the emergency surgical management of 11 cases of early-onset infected pseudoaneurysms following native AVF creation. It focuses on operative modalities under local anesthesia and the identification of contributing factors related to the patient’s surgical history. What the study adds: The results identify iterative surgery (the second attempt at AVF creation) as the primary predictive factor, involved in 72.7% of cases (p < 0.001). Despite the severity of the infection, the study demonstrates that surgical management under local anesthesia achieves a 100% immediate success rate. However, it highlights that salvaging the fistula through lateral suture is possible in less than one-third of cases. This publication is available in full in Health Sciences and Disease.
