Abstract

This study begins with defining the theoretical frameworks and methodological pathways of cognitive psychology, which has become a dominant approach in various branches of contemporary psychology, serving as a fundamental basis for exploring or intervening in the functioning of mind. Accordingly, this work aims to highlight the contributions that paved the way for the cognitive revolution and the subsequent development of cognitive psychology, while also clarifying the place of this approach within cognitive science. Furthermore, it examines the methodological tools and levels of theorizing and modeling that drive this psychological trend. Based on consistent and reliable data, this work attempts to establish a timeline of the stages this approach has undergone, from its initial conception to the cognitive paradigm from which it emerged. The data presented in this article demonstrates that cognitive psychology was a major step forward in understanding the human mind, an ambitious project that transformed our perception of how cognition and mental processes work. It thus opened a broad window for exploring what occurs in the mind when receiving and processing information. This study concluded by emphasizing the enormous practical possibilities that this approach has provided in various fields of human life.
