The SCG-HMH Starship – A Feasible Solar-Thermal Cryogenic Hybrid for Deep Space Propulsion and Power
Abstract
The Smart-Cryogenic HTS-MHD Hybrid Generator (SCG-HMH) Starship represents a refined, open-systemarchitecture for deep space exploration, integrating cryogenic liquid nitrogen (LN₂) phase-change expansion,high-temperature superconductivity (HTS), and pulsed non-equilibrium magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) fordual propulsion and power generation. Unlike prior closed-loop concepts that risked thermodynamicviolations, this design treats the star (e.g., Sun) as the primary external energy source, harvesting stellarradiation as Q_in to drive a solar-thermal cycle. Internal waste heat recycling serves as an efficiency booster, enabling apparent Coefficient of Performance (COP) values of 50–500× (gross electrical output / parasiticinput), while true thermodynamic efficiency remains 40–70% (< Carnot limit). The feasible probe-scale variant (5 m radius spherical hull, mass ~10 tons) targets 10–100 kW baseline power(deep space) with 1–5 MW surges near stars, hybrid venting for 1–5 km/s delta-v, and AI-regulatedoperation. This white paper consolidates the concept, system architecture, simulations, and references, emphasizing engineering realism over speculative overclaims. Key innovations include pulsed plasma forseeding-free MHD and selective hull absorption for stellar quenching. Potential applications: Lunar/Marsprobes, solar system relays, and chained gravity-assist missions Reference in document
