Abstract

While artificial intelligence has become indispensable for navigating complex scientific problems, we demonstrate that human guidance remains the critical element directing AI toward meaningful discovery. Through the development of the HYDRA (Hydrothermal Dynamics of Replicative Amplification) framework, we show how human expertise shapes AI systems to investigate scientifically profound questions rather than statistical artifacts. Human researchers provided: (1) the fundamental questions about life's origins, (2) the conceptual framework of chemical Darwinism, (3) the biological intuition to recognize significant patterns, and (4) the ethical grounding for responsible AI use. AI then executed: (1) navigation of 2,347-dimensional parameter spaces, (2) integration of 127 contradictory studies, (3) identification of non-intuitive emergent phenomena, and (4) quantification of uncertainties across 15 orders of magnitude in time. This human-AI symbiosis revealed the three-stage temperature-dependent evolution of prebiotic systems, with the critical "Matter World" stage (35-40°C) representing cooperative polymer networks. The success of this research demonstrates that AI without human guidance is directionless, while humans without AI augmentation are overwhelmed by complexity. The future of scientific discovery lies in this synergistic partnership.
