Abstract

The increasing integration of distributed renewable energy resources (DERs), such as solar photovoltaic (PV) and wind turbines, presents both opportunities and challenges for modern power systems. Smart grids provide an intelligent platform for managing these variable and decentralized energy sources, ensuring reliable, efficient, and sustainable electricity delivery. This study focuses on the modeling and simulation of smart grid integration with distributed renewable energy resources, aiming to evaluate the impact of high DER penetration on grid stability, voltage regulation, and power quality. A comprehensive system model is developed, incorporating generation, storage, distribution, and load components. Simulations are conducted under different operating scenarios to analyze the performance of the smart grid with varying levels of renewable energy integration. The results demonstrate that effective integration strategies, such as energy storage management and intelligent control of inverters, can mitigate intermittency issues and enhance grid resilience. This research provides insights into optimizing smart grid operations in the context of increasing renewable energy adoption.
