CRITICAL DETERMINANTS OF CRISIS MANAGEMENT EFFECTIVENESS IN CONSTRUCTION ENTERPRISES: A COMPREHENSIVE ANALYSIS
Abstract
The construction industry operates within the environment characterized by inherent volatility, extended project lifecycles, substantial capital requirements, and significant exposure to external economic fluctuations. These characteristics render construction enterprises particularly vulnerable to crisis situations that can threaten organizational survival and long-term viability. This paper presents a systematic examination of the multifaceted factors that determine crisis management effectiveness in construction enterprises, drawing upon contemporary research and industry practice. Through comprehensive analysis of economic, financial, operational, and organizational dimensions, this study identifies and evaluates the critical determinants that influence a construction firm's capacity to anticipate, respond to, and recover from crisis events. Particular emphasis is placed on examining the interplay between external market forces and internal organizational capabilities, including financial resilience, strategic adaptability, risk governance frameworks, human capital development, and stakeholder relationship management. The research reveals that construction enterprises face unique challenges during crisis periods due to their project-based operational model, dependence on extensive supply chains, exposure to regulatory changes, and reliance on external financing. The findings demonstrate that effective crisis management requires a holistic approach that integrates proactive risk identification, flexible organizational structures, robust financial management, strategic human resource practices, and collaborative partnerships. This paper contributes to the growing body of knowledge on organizational resilience in the construction sector by providing empirically grounded insights into the factors that enable construction enterprises to maintain operational continuity and competitive positioning during turbulent periods. The conclusions offer practical implications for construction management professionals, policymakers, and researchers seeking to enhance crisis preparedness and organizational sustainability in this critical economic sector.
