Abstract

Rural healthcare in India often operates at the intersection of traditional knowledge systems and modern biomedical science. In regions such as Kherwas–Badnawar in the Malwa belt of Madhya Pradesh, home-based remedies (“Gharelu Nuskhe”) and traditional practices serve as the primary line of healthcare, while modern medical interventions are frequently met with hesitation due to a lack of transparency and trust. This research explores how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can function as a bridge between these two paradigms by transforming traditional “home science” into verifiable, visual, and data-backed knowledge. Using a bimodal research design, the study combines ethnographic fieldwork with computational modeling. Qualitative interviews conducted with local residents reveal that resistance to modern medicine is not rooted in rejection of science, but in the invisibility of its mechanisms. To address this trust deficit, the research proposes the use of AI-driven molecular docking simulations and computational biology techniques to validate the biological efficacy of commonly used herbal remedies such as Neem (Azadirachta indica) and Turmeric (Curcuma longa). By visualizing molecular interactions between bioactive compounds and human disease pathways, AI provides a form of “digital proof” that aligns traditional wisdom with modern scientific standards. The study further outlines a conceptual framework for AI-powered visual translation tools, including computer vision and augmented reality, to communicate medical processes in an accessible manner to rural populations. The findings suggest that AI-enabled visualization can significantly improve trust, decision-making, and timely medical intervention, particularly in emergency scenarios. This research demonstrates how integrating artificial intelligence with traditional knowledge systems can promote culturally sensitive, transparent, and inclusive healthcare models, offering a scalable approach for rural health innovation in India and similar global contexts.
