Energetic Neutral Atom Ribbons as Space-Phase Angular Resonance Structures
Abstract
The discovery of narrow, coherent ribbon structures in Energetic Neutral Atom (ENA) mapsof the heliosphere represents one of the most surprising large-scale structural findings inmodern space physics. These ribbons, first identified by NASA’s Interstellar BoundaryExplorer (IBEX), trace a bright, arc-like enhancement in ENA flux that spans much of the skyand remains stable over many years. In conventional interpretations, the ribbon isattributed to secondary charge-exchange processes shaped by the interstellar magneticfield. In the Space-Phase (SP3) framework, however, the ENA ribbon can be interpreted as avisible manifestation of large-scale angular resonance modes installed in conditioned spacephase at the heliospheric boundary. This paper reviews the standard understanding of ENAproduction and ribbon formation, and then presents a Space-Phase interpretation in whichthe ribbon is treated as a standing angular transport structure embedded in the spacephase medium itself.
