Assuming initiative without knowing when to return itrisks turning guidance into domination. Version 0.6 defines minimal evaluation criteriafor determining when understanding is ready to stand on its own. What Understanding Is Not Understanding does not equal: Memorizing correct answers Explaining terminology Expressing confidence These may signal understanding, but they do not constitute it. Three Indicators of Established Understanding (Provisional) 1) Ability to Translate Understanding into Action When understanding is established,a person can explain what to do nextin their own words. Perfection is unnecessary.Hypotheses are sufficient. What matters is whetherquestions connect to action. 2) Awareness of Revisability Established understanding includesawareness of its own incompleteness. Errors can be corrected Conditions may require revision As long as this awareness exists, initiative can be transferred safely. 3) Translatability to Others Understanding need not be copied verbatim. However, the ability toadapt explanations to another’s contextis a strong indicator of maturity. Untranslatable understanding tends to harden. When the Indicators Are Not Met If one or more indicators are missing, initiative should not yet be fully transferred. The Anti-Socratic Model then prescribes: Retaining initiative while accompanying progress Re-articulating reasoning Decomposing tasks into actionable units This is not failure, but expected behavior by design. Criteria for Returning Initiative Initiative is not returnedbecause understanding is complete. It is returned when understandingcan correct itself while moving forward. Returning initiative is not abandonment, but a trust-based transition. Conclusion Understanding cannot be measured by scores or accuracy alone. What matters is the abilityto move forward and self-correct. The Anti-Socratic Model does not complete understanding. It identifies the pointwhere understanding becomes self-sustaining.
