Abstract

Dataset description This dataset accompanies the article “Fatigue assessment of welded joints subjected to multiaxial loading conditions through the Effective Critical Plane approach.” It contains the experimental fatigue-life data and the corresponding fatigue-life predictions presented in the article. Each .txt file represents a specific combination of fatigue-assessment method, specimen geometry, loading condition, post-weld or heat-treatment condition, and load ratio. File-naming convention For uniaxial loading conditions, filenames generally follow the structure: _ _ _ _R_ .txt For multiaxial loading conditions, the filename also includes the nominal stress ratio (\lambda) and the load phase: _ _Multi_ _Ph_ _ _R_ .txt where: METHOD_NAME identifies the fatigue-assessment method or equivalent parameter; GEOMETRY_TYPE identifies the specimen or welded-joint geometry; LOAD_TYPE identifies the applied loading condition, such as axial loading, bending, torsion, or multiaxial loading; LAMBDA is the nominal shear-to-normal stress ratio, defined as(\lambda=\tau_{\mathrm{nom}}/\sigma_{\mathrm{nom}}); Ph identifies the load phase angle for multiaxial loading; POST_HEAT_TREATMENT identifies the weld, material, or heat-treatment condition; R is the applied load ratio. Decimal values in filenames are written using underscores instead of decimal points. For example, 0_44 corresponds to 0.44 and 1_625 corresponds to 1.625. As an example, the filename FS_1_A_Multi_0_44_Ph_90_AW_R_-1.txt identifies results obtained using method FS_1 for geometry A, under multiaxial loading with (\lambda=0.44), a load phase of 90°, the AW condition, and a load ratio of (R=-1). File contents The files are plain-text, tab-delimited files without a header row. Each row corresponds to one experimental fatigue test and contains three columns: Experimental number of cycles to failure; Equivalent fatigue parameter calculated using the method identified in the filename; Predicted number of cycles to failure. The definitions, units, material conditions, specimen geometries, and calculation procedures associated with the equivalent parameters are provided in the reference article.
