From Real-World Azure Work to Passing the Microsoft AZ-900 Certification Exam: My Honest Testimonial and Preparation Breakdown
Abstract
Introduction: Why I Decided to Take the Microsoft AZ-900 Certification Exam I've been in the IT field for a number of years, predominantly as a Cloud & Systems Administrator. Azure is not an unfamiliar platform. As part of my job, I create and maintain virtual machines; manage storage accounts; understand networking basics; and grant final access to users. However, the time I have spent on the Azure platform has not provided me with the confirmation I needed to feel confident that I understand the Microsoft Azure platform cloud fundamentals. I needed a structured and validated way to be sure that I had the knowledge and concepts related to Azure that Microsoft defines as the basis for working with the Azure platform. This realization led me to take the Microsoft AZ-900 Certification Exam, also known as Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals. My purpose for taking the AZ-900 certification exam was not to add to my CV, but rather to validate my foundational knowledge, find the gaps that I had in my knowledge of Azure, and to prepare to sit for other Microsoft Azure certification exams in the future. This article will review, from a first-person experience, how I prepared for the Azure Fundamentals Exam; discuss my mistakes during my preparation; identify the preparation techniques that worked for me; and finally, discuss the use of CERTIFICATION EXAM quizzes as a practical preparation tool for passing the AZ-900 Certification Exam. The Reality of the Microsoft AZ-900 Certification Exam I spent some time understanding what the exam is and what it is not. The AZ-900 dumps are classified as a foundational exam that is intended to demonstrate a candidate's understanding of cloud concepts and the core Azure services that are provided by Microsoft. Exam Structure and Requirements There are no prerequisites for the AZ-900 certification exam. While Microsoft recommends that candidates have a general understanding of IT and cloud concepts, the actual prerequisites for the AZ-900 certification do not exist. The AZ-900 exam can contain between 40 and 60 questions, depending on the AZ-900 certification exam version. The AZ-900 certification exam questions may be multiple-choice, multiple-response, drag and drop, or scenario-type questions. To pass the AZ-900 certification exam, a candidate must achieve a minimum score of 700 on a scale of 1000, using Microsoft’s standardized scoring. The total AZ-900 certification exam time is approximately 45 minutes, plus additional time allowed for reading and answering questions. Microsoft does not disclose the specific scoring details or the breakdown of questions by domain, and the information is not officially verifiable. Microsoft does note that the information regarding scoring is proprietary to Microsoft. Topics and Difficulty Level Microsoft publishes and updates the skills that a candidate for the AZ-900 certification exam must demonstrate; the topics of the skills measured on the AZ-900 exam include: Cloud Concepts (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS; the Model of Shared Responsibility) Core Azure Services (compute, storage, and networking) Security, Compliance, Trust, and Privacy Cost Management, Pricing, and Support Plans for Azure Services Although the AZ-900 certification exam is frequently labeled as "Fundamentals", the actual knowledge required to pass the AZ-900 certification exam is more than one might expect. The exam consists of many questions that evaluate the candidate's understanding of cloud concepts, rather than requiring the ability to recite definitions of the concepts. If a candidate only tries to prepare for the AZ-900 certification exam from memory, then, in many cases, the candidate will fail to pass the AZ-900 certification exam. Common Mistakes and Weak Areas Candidates Face Through my personal experience and conversations I've had within the community, I've observed quite a few gaps that were often present in my conversations: Confusion between IaaS, PaaS & SaaS in scenario questions. Not understanding the Azure pricing model and cost management tools. Underestimating the importance of governance, compliance & support plan related questions. Expecting that hands-on experience alone would be sufficient. One big mistake I made when I first started in the Azure World is briefly looking at AZ-900 dumps. I quickly realised they were unreliable, out-of-date, and didn't explain why the answers were what they were. I very soon gave up on that method of exam preparation. My Study Method: What Failed and What Finally Worked What Did Not Work Initially, I relied heavily on: To begin with, I heavily relied on: Random free quizzes. Reading through documentation without organisation or structure. What Worked I changed my approach completely: Microsoft Learn modules:I used the official Microsoft Learn path to create a clean conceptual foundation. These modules are aligned to the real exam objectives. Hands-on validation:I used the Azure portal multiple times, even for very simple tasks. By seeing the pricing options, support plans & service categories in the Azure portal, I was able to retain the theory much better. Structured practice exams:This was where the CERTIFICATION EXAM quizzes became really valuable. I needed the ability to take timed exam-style questions and then be able to track my progress. Why I Chose CERTIFICATION EXAM Quizzes The questions were designed in the same format as I would see in the actual exam. Timed simulation practice questions allowed me to learn how to pace myself while under actual pressure. Tracking your progress through the question bank shows you exactly where you have recurring weak areas. The key for me was that I was consistent with my study time. I studied for around one hour every day (approximately 60 to 90 minutes per day for 3 weeks) and took quizzes to validate my learning instead of using guesswork in determining when I would be ready to take the actual test. How I Used the Certification Exam in My Daily Routine Weekdays: One timed question set per day Go back over ALL of the wrong answers, mapping back to the corresponding topics/areas of study from Microsoft Learn. Weekend One full mock exam under true exam conditions. Having this feedback loop in place was so critical because when I made a mistake, it indicated to me exactly where my gap was; it wasn't just another wrong answer. Exam Day: What Actually Helped I took my test online through Pearson VUE and had to go through the same process that you would have had to complete if you had taken the exam in person: ID verification and environment checks. The three things that helped me the most were Familiarity with how the questions were worded. Comfort with being under time constraints while taking the test. I had a conceptual understanding of what I was being asked to do, rather than just memorizing information. I had time to review my flagged answers and passed the first time I tried. After Passing: Career Impact and Salary Context The following are the immediate impacts and realistic outcomes of passing AZ-900: Changed my profile credibility for Azure jobs Impacted the nature of recruiter conversations (more technical/relevant) Developed a clear roadmap for AZ-104 and role-specific certifications The data show that entry-level cloud roles in the US frequently pay above the average national IT salary for those roles (based on reliable data sources) In Europe, Azure Fundamentals certifications are an integral part of moving into a cloud engineering role at the entry level. In India, Azure certifications result in significantly higher salaries than non-certified peers with similar levels of experience. Although specific numbers will vary by role, location, and prior experience, Microsoft does not provide any guarantee of salary; therefore, this should be taken into consideration when looking at these numbers. Alternatives to the Certification Exam and a Real Comparison During my preparation, I reviewed several legitimate alternatives: Microsoft Official Practice Assessments Website: Microsoft Learnprovides a free practice assessment, with some limitations in terms of randomization in the questions, while still being helpful. MeasureUp (Official Microsoft Partner) Website: MeasureUpA partner that provides a paid assessment which includes “Certification mode” and detailed explanations for each question. Whizlabs Website: Whizlabsprovides practice tests along with tutorials and provides performance analytics for the AZ-900. Tutorials Dojo Website: Tutorials Dojoprovides practice assessments in a structured mode with different options available. Udemy Practice Test Courses Website: Udemyhigh-quality to low-quality courses. Some are well-rated; others are out of date. Comparison Note: Where such data were not available, I have avoided making claims about either factual superiority. The only item I had confirming factual similarities was the general area of how closely the features of the CERTIFICATION EXAM spoke to my learning style and comfort with the use of structured simulation and progress tracking to demonstrate my competency level. High-Value Strategies for Future AZ-900 Candidates Complete the Microsoft Dumps Learning Paths first Use practice exams to identify your weaknesses (do not use them to memorize answers) Use Valid Dumps to avoid skipping conceptual learning. Practice early under timed conditions. Be well-informed about PRICING and Governance of products. Conclusion: A Reasoned Recommendation My decision to take the Microsoft AZ-900 Certification Exam was not about cutting corners or memorization; it was about understanding MS's definition of Cloud Fundamentals and verifying that through appropriate preparation methods.
