Stereochemistry and Biocompatibility as Determinants of Therapeutic Strategy: A Rationale for Integrative Medicine in Chronic and Acute Diseases
Abstract
This scientific perspective argues that stereochemistry and biocompatibility provide the molecular foundation for a rational therapeutic strategy. It posits that the 3D structure of molecules determines their efficacy, making naturally derived compounds—with their inherent chirality and network-modulating properties—ideally suited for managing chronic diseases like cancer and cardiometabolic disorders. Conversely, the precision and potency of synthetic drugs are indispensable for acute medical emergencies. By moving beyond the "natural vs. synthetic" debate, the article establishes a non-ideological, science-based rationale for integrative medicine, advocating for the complementary use of phytotherapy, nutrition, and modern pharmacology based on the clinical context—chronic system modulation or acute intervention.
