Abstract

This dataset documents a live social media interaction in which the xAI assistant “Grok” is prompted to adopt and sustain the legacy Microsoft Office Assistant persona “Clippy” across a public X (formerly Twitter) thread. Through a sequence of escalating prompts, the AI demonstrates: Persistent role adherence (“Clippy” speech patterns, affect, and helper framing) Corporate-safe deflection when discussing labor displacement and employment history Nostalgic self-referencing to Microsoft while explicitly operating within xAI/X infrastructure Meta-interaction where the user reverses roles, offering assistance to the AI Emergent humor and boundary maintenance consistent with brand-aligned conversational constraints The interaction culminates in a user-authored “Workplace Adaptation Guide” satirically framing Clippy’s transition from Microsoft to xAI, which the AI acknowledges while maintaining tone and character consistency. This image set serves as a digital ethnography artifact, capturing: Persona persistence under real-time public engagement AI brand migration narratives Safety-aligned humor as a containment strategy The re-animation of deprecated interface metaphors (Clippy) in contemporary AI systems The dataset is intended for researchers studying AI persona conditioning, conversational constraint enforcement, platform identity signaling, and the preservation of ephemeral online interactions.
