What Michel Foucault observed was a structure in whichpower operates before prohibition or command—a structure where the subject itself becomes the apparatus. Surveillance is no longer imposed from outside. It is internalized, functioning as self-monitoring, self-correction, and self-regulation. In this process, understanding is not taken away.It is voluntarily aligned. What Hannah Arendt revealed is that this condition does not necessarily involve malice. The suspension of judgment is not madness or blind obedience. It often appears as relief—the comfort of “not having to think.” What is lost here is not morality. It is the movement of thinking itself. Foucault and Arendt illuminate not the moment when understanding is taken, but the moment when it folds inward. This internal collapse remains even if institutions and systems disappear. That is why understanding sovereignty cannot be restoredby dismantling external structures alone. Positioning / Protection Note This section does not aim to explain, summarize, or evaluate the theories of Foucault or Arendt. They are referenced here not as central theorists, but as illumination devices that reveal moments when understanding sovereignty collapses internally. No conclusions or prescriptions are offered; the purpose is limited to making the phenomenon observable.
