A Photon-Cell Foundation for the Emergence of Number and Time
Abstract
This paper proposes a deliberately minimal and exploratory foundation for addressing theemergence of numerical and temporal structure in early-universe physics. Rather than assumingthe real number line or continuous time as primitive, the account begins from a physicallybounded unit—the photon cell—defined by a maximal physically meaningful quantum of energyin a local inertial frame. From this bounded primitive, counting, ordering, and proto-temporalstructure are shown to arise prior to any appeal to exact real-valued description. The proposalis explicitly methodological and representational rather than metaphysical: it neither assertsfinal correctness nor advances a new physical dynamics. Its purpose is to clarify how numericalexactness and continuous time may become applicable as idealizations once operational stabilityis achieved, thereby opening a constrained pathway for subsequent foundational work.
