Developing Sentence Cohesion Skills For Grade 5 Students in Vietnam in Vietnamese Language Teaching

Sentence cohesion skills play an important role in developing primary students’ ability to produce coherent and logical texts, particularly for Grade 5 students. However, teaching practice in Vietnam shows that many students still experience difficulties in identifying and applying sentence cohesion devices in writing. On this basis, the paper examines the current state of Grade 5 students’ sentence cohesion skills as well as the teaching practices for fostering these skills in several primary schools in Vietnam. Based on the survey findings, the paper proposes a number of measures to develop sentence cohesion skills for students in Vietnamese language teaching.
