Abstract

This paper is an ontological, principle-level study aimed at clarifying the structural preconditions under which a relation can be said to exist. Rather than addressing the emotional qualities, ethical values, or cultural ideals of relationships, and without engaging in empirical interaction models or normative frameworks, the paper examines the following question through an analysis of globally coupled mind systems in multi-subject contexts: Under what conditions can a structure constitute a relation. The paper argues for the following conclusions: (1) Subject recognition is the minimal and irreducible ontological precondition for relational validity; (2) any structure in which obligations, duties, or expectations are imposed prior to subject recognition does not constitute a relation in the ontological sense; (3) so-called pseudo-relations refer to structural configurations that fail to meet the conditions of relational validity yet are nonetheless named as relations; (4) whether a relation is valid is an ontological judgment and bears no logical necessity to moral evaluation or normative assessment of the involved parties. This work does not negate the dynamical account of relations as relational fields developed in Chapter IV of the explanatory section (II), but instead performs an ontological, level-prior clarification of the conditions presupposed by such dynamics. The paper thus functions as the ontological judgment module of the globally coupled mind systems framework in multi-subject contexts, standing in a clear structural division of labor with the already-established relational dynamics presented in the explanatory analysis.
