The Second Dimension: Where It All Restarted
Abstract
This paper proposes a missing foundational layer in dimensional hierarchy: a two-dimensional plus time (2D+1) substrate that enables one-dimensional plus time (1D+1) subatomic motion and supports non-linear dimensional emergence. The 2D+1 regime is not observable space, nor a surface on which matter resides, but a minimal geometric support providing length and breadth without intrinsic height or depth. Within this framework, dimensional progression is non-linear: the 2D+1 substrate precedes 1D+1 subatomic trajectories, while three-dimensional plus time (3D+1) space, objects, and observers emerge later through energy accumulation, geometric stress, and collective dynamics. By interpreting the Big Bang as a global mechanical restart rather than a creation event, this work preserves strict energy conservation and aligns cosmological origin with phase-transition–like behavior. The framework is intentionally pre-dynamical, offering an organizing principle rather than new force laws or field equations, and is compatible with established cosmological observations. While the 2D+1 substrate is not directly observable, the model suggests indirect signatures near dimensional boundaries and provides a coherent foundation for future mathematical development and empirical investigation. The road came first. Vehicles came next. Traffic patterns emerged from their interaction. Similarly, a 2D+1 fabric provides the minimal support, 1D+1 subatomic trajectories arise upon it, and through their collective dynamics, 3D+1 reality emerges. Support precedes motion; motion precedes structure.
