Regionale Identifikationen im Ruhrgebiet: Zwischen offiziellen Erinnerungskulturen und alltäglicher Praxis
Abstract
A detailed report of a public event series that explored human-environment relationships through the lens of cultural identifications with the Ruhr Valley at the end of the heavy industries. The five roundtable discussions took place in 2025 at various theme-related locations: the Ruhr Museum (focus on forms of representation), the Museum of the Association for Mining- und Industrial History Recklinghausen (the multiple and shifting meanings of slag heaps), the Institute for Social Movements at the Ruhr University Bochum (identification as a concept in contemporary history and in sociology), the Museum Folkwang (the "Eigen-Sinn" of Ruhr Art), and the German Electricity Museum in Recklinghausen, Zeitreise Strom (the renatured Emscher River). The series took place under the auspices of the German Mining Museum Bochum, in the context of the Leibniz-WissenschaftsCampus research program "ReForm - Resources in Transformation".
