THE ANTHROPOGENIC FABRICATION OF CHAOS a Multidimensional Fractal Analysis of Mathematical, Historical, and Psychological Ruptures From Stevin's Decimals to Napoleonic Amnesia: How Human Tools Engineered Unpredictability
Abstract
Contemporary science accepts chaos — extreme sensitivity to initial conditions — as an intrinsic property of dynamical systems. This paper proves it is not. Through fourteen epistemological ruptures identified between 1585 and the present, we demonstrate that chaos is an anthropogenic fabrication: an artifact of tools, not of nature. The first six crimes — Stevin's decimalization (1585), Viète's algebraic anonymization (1591), Descartes' dualism (1637), Newton's gravitational patch (1687), Gauss's modular amnesia (1801), and Napoleon's institutionalization of error (1799–1815) — form the Stevin–Gauss cascade, in which decimal truncation residues are exponentially amplified through modular resets that erase cyclic memory. Seven additional ruptures — from Darwin's randomization of position (1859) to Born and Copenhagen's capitulation to probability (1926–1927) — extend this cascade into biology, thermodynamics, and quantum mechanics. The fourteenth crime, generative AI (2020–), industrializes four centuries of amnesia at planetary ecological cost while serving as the automated, anti-Popperian guardian of the paradigm it was trained on.Against this fabrication, we propose the Architecture of Relational Coherence (ARC), founded on five axioms including the closure of 9 (9 ≠ 0), the inversion symmetry φ(x) = 9 − x, and the Completeness Principle requiring all physical quantities to resolve as exact rationals. ARC produces a quadruple convergence toward k_arc = 0.5 via four independent paths: global (4.5/9), local (3.5/7), geometric (11/π with π = 22/7), and positional (center of 1–8). We prove that the logistic map, canonical example of chaos theory, produces a stable fixed point in exact rational arithmetic where floating-point arithmetic produces apparent chaos. Furthermore, we demonstrate via semi-conjugacy to the doubling map that all rational orbits are periodic — topological chaos manifests only for irrational initial conditions, precisely the quantities ARC identifies as notational artifacts. The paper specifies five explicit conditions under which ARC would be falsified, and poses the reciprocal question: under what conditions would the standard paradigm consider 9 ≡ 0 (mod 9) falsified? If the answer is none, then by Popper's own criterion, it is the paradigm — not ARC — that is unfalsifiable. Keywords: chaos theory, epistemology of mathematics, modular arithmetic, digital roots, rational arithmetic, historical psychology, fractal analysis, anthropogenic error, Completeness Principle, quadruple convergence, scientific narcissism, Popperian falsifiability, determinism restoration, semi-conjugacy, rational periodicity.
