What Counts as Science? An Informational Mechanics Guide to the Boundary Between Science and Philosophy (IM-K002, v0.3)
Abstract
This document is part of the Informational Mechanics (IM) framework and is published as a non-authoritative interpretive guide in the IM v0.3 corpus. The paper accompanies IM-C002 by applying its operational demarcation criteria to questions commonly encountered in contemporary science communication. Rather than proposing new axioms, models, or scientific claims, it uses an explicit filter—operator-defined observability, persistence under interaction, and admissibility for comparison—to classify question types as scientifically admissible, philosophical (non-scientific), or ill-formed category errors. The note is intended to clarify recurring science–philosophy tensions in public discourse by making the boundary of scientific explanation explicit. Its purpose is interpretive and procedural: to support clearer communication and classification without polemic, exclusion, or claims of empirical authority. This document does not introduce new principles within Informational Mechanics and should be read as an interpretive application of IM-C002, not as a source of scientific results.
