Sensory and Cognitive Representation Curves in Theory of Touch for Artificial Bodies
Abstract
This work proposes a theoretical model of touch for an artificial body in which tactile perception is represented as a continuous space of sensory characteristics. The sensory imprint of contact is described using curves that reflect metric surface parameters (micro-relief, density, friction, elasticity, and others), and the interpretation of the stimulus emerges at the points of intersection of these curves. An internal cognitive curve is introduced that links the physical parameters of the sensory response with a qualitative cognitive evaluation of the stimulus. The proposed approach provides a foundation for embedding tactile perception into artificial systems as a unified sensory–cognitive process.
