Discovery of the First stable Period- 23 orbit in the Equal mass Zero-Angular momentum Three-Body Problem.
Abstract
On 3 January 2026, Swastik Srivastava discovered the first known stable periodic orbit of period 23 in the planar three-body problem with equal masses and zero angular momentum — a family that had remained completely empty for over 12 years despite intensive searches by the global celestial mechanics community. The orbit achieves a periodicity residual of 9.33 × 10^{-18} after 23 full cycles and exhibits a beautiful symmetric choreography. This discovery fills one of the longest-standing gaps in the classification of three-body periodic orbits and is submitted for publication in Physical Review Letters.
