Laser Therapy in Animals: A Safe and Effective Tool for Modern Veterinary Care
Abstract
The use of lasers in veterinary surgery has grown rapidly over the past two decades, transforming the way many surgical and therapeutic procedures are performed. Once considered an expensive luxury or experimental tool, lasers are now increasingly viewed as valuable instruments that enhance surgical precision, reduce pain, minimize bleeding, and promote faster healing. However, misconceptions still exist regarding their true effectiveness, cost–benefit value, and practical applicability in routine veterinary practice. This popular article explores the science behind surgical lasers, their types and mechanisms, clinical applications in small and large animals, advantages and limitations, and their role in modern veterinary medicine.
