IMPACT OF SUPPLY CHAIN STRATEGIES OF NIGERIA BREWERIES AND DANGOTE INDUSTRIES PLC ON THE NIGERIAN ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE
Abstract
AbstractThis study examines the impact of supply chain strategies adopted by Nigeria Breweries andDangote Industries PLC on the Nigerian road infrastructure. Supply chain strategies, includingtransportation planning, route optimization, and logistics partnerships, play a significant role inensuring product delivery and operational efficiency. However, heavy and frequent movement ofgoods has been associated with road deterioration, increased maintenance costs, and safetyconcerns. Using mixed-methods involving secondary data and key informant interviews withlogistics managers and transport associations, the study investigates how some of these supplychain strategies impact on road infrastructure, freight costs, and regulatory compliance. Findingsreveal that while efficient supply chains improve business competitiveness and marketdistribution, they also contribute to accelerated road damage and demand collaborativeinfrastructure investments by both public and private sectors. The study recommends strategicroute planning, investment in alternative transport modes, and strengthened industry–governmentcollaboration to mitigate negative externalities. Keywords: Supply Chain Strategies, Logistics Operations, Road Infrastructure, FreightTransportation, Nigeria Breweries and Dangote Industries PLC
