Abstract
In a world where contemporary architecture tends to become uniform, vernacular architecture emerges as a sustainable alternative adapted to local contexts. This thesis explores the richness of traditional building practices in Colombia, with a particular focus on the Urabá subregion of Antioquia. This thesis aims to highlight vernacular architecture not only as a construction method but also as a living expression of the culture and identity of communities. Through an in-depth analysis of materials, techniques, and vernacular construction typologies, this work sheds light on their potential to improve the living conditions of rural communities. How can these ancestral practices be integrated into contemporary architecture without losing their essence? What solutions do they offer in response to current environmental and social challenges? Between tradition and innovation, this study proposes a reflection on the need to rehabilitate these practices for a more resilient architectural development in harmony with its environment.
