Space Health & Readiness A Policy Framework for Human Preparedness, Health Resilience and Post-Mission Integration in Civilian Spaceflight
Abstract
The rapid expansion of civilian participation in suborbital and orbital spaceflight has outpaced existing governance models for human health, readiness and long-term resilience. While technological innovation has accelerated launch capabilities and access pathways, institutional responsibility for pre-flight preparation, medical stability, psychological readiness and post-mission reintegration remains fragmented or undefined. This policy brief introduces Space Health & Readiness as a cross-sectoral governance framework situated at the intersection of public health, space policy and human systems design. The framework positions human readiness and health resilience as institutional responsibilities rather than commercial or operator-specific concerns, and proposes an integrated approach to lifecycle governance in civilian spaceflight. This work is intended to support early dialogue and alignment among international organizations, space agencies and policy institutions as civilian space activity approaches operational scale.
