Engineering Mathematics: Modeling and Computation BY Dr. S. Hariprasad, Mr. M. Murali Krishna Raju, Dr. G. Venkata Subbaiah, Dr. Chillara Soma Shekar
Abstract
Engineering Mathematics forms the foundation of analytical thinking and problem-solving across all branches of engineering and applied sciences. The book Engineering Mathematics: Modeling and Computation has been carefully developed to present mathematical concepts not merely as abstract theories, but as powerful tools for modeling real-world engineering problems and implementing computational solutions. This book emphasizes the close relationship between mathematical modeling and computational techniques, enabling learners to translate physical, engineering, and technological problems into mathematical form and solve them efficiently. Core topics such as calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, probability, numerical methods, and transforms are presented with a strong focus on applications in engineering systems, data analysis, optimization, and scientific computation. A key objective of this text is to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Mathematical concepts are introduced systematically, followed by illustrative examples, engineering-oriented problem formulations, algorithmic approaches, and computational interpretations. Wherever appropriate, real-life engineering scenarios are used to demonstrate how mathematical models support design, analysis, and decision-making processes in modern engineering practice. As a multi-author contribution, this book reflects the collective academic expertise and teaching experience of its authors. The collaborative approach ensures both depth and breadth of coverage while maintaining clarity, consistency, and pedagogical balance throughout the chapters. The content has been structured to align with undergraduate and postgraduate engineering curricula, as well as the evolving needs of interdisciplinary and computationally driven programs. Special attention has been given to developing logical reasoning, numerical intuition, and computational thinking, which are essential skills for today’s engineers and researchers. End-of-chapter exercises, review questions, and problem sets of varying difficulty levels are included to reinforce understanding and encourage independent learning. We hope that Engineering Mathematics: Modeling and Computation will serve as a valuable textbook and reference for students, educators, and practicing engineers, supporting both academic learning and professional application. Suggestions and constructive feedback are warmly welcomed and will contribute to the continuous improvement of future editions of this work.
