Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly changed the morbidity landscape among children and highlighted the relevance of post-infectious complications. One such complication is multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), which occurs several weeks after SARS-CoV-2 infection and is characterized by systemic inflammation affecting various organs, including the cardiovascular system. The article presents current data on the frequency and clinical manifestations of cardiac lesions in MIS-C, including left ventricular dysfunction, myocarditis, pericarditis, coronary artery changes, and arrhythmias. Treatment approaches are described, including intravenous immunoglobulin, glucocorticosteroids, immunotherapy, and supportive measures. The importance of regular monitoring of the cardiovascular system after the acute phase is also noted. Evidence shows that with timely initiation of therapy, the prognosis is mostly favorable, although some patients require long-term cardiological follow-up.
