Filamentous Fungi Potential for Pharmaceutical Substance Removal from Municipal Wastewater: Investigating Applications and Limitations
Abstract
This research project aims to investigate the potential application and limitations of filamentous fungi for removing pharmaceutical substances from municipal wastewater. Previous studies have shown the potential of fungi in removing hazardous micropollutants, and there is a need for further research on the constraints and costs of implementing this method on a larger scale. The integration of fungal remediation and circular economy holds promise for a sustainable solution in wastewater treatment. A multidisciplinary approach combining genetic engineering and advanced processing techniques is vital for addressing the challenges associated with fungal treatment. This project will contribute to existing knowledge and provide practical guidelines for implementing fungal treatment in wastewater treatment plants. The methodology involves a comprehensive literature review, data collection and analysis, collaboration with stakeholders, cost analysis, and providing guidelines for future research. The ultimate goal of this project is to contribute towards the global goal of ensuring clean water and sanitation for all.
