Abstract

This deliverable presents key advancements in channel, propagation, and sensing models for integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) systems. This is often also called integrated communication and sensing (ICAS) or joint communications and sensing (JCAS) in the literature. One particular focus area is the reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) as an enabling technology. The need for ISAC comes from growing demand for intelligent, adaptive, and secure wireless networks in the context of 6G and beyond. RIS offers a transformative approach to shaping the wireless channels and it enables enhanced communication performance and environmental awareness through programmable electromagnetic surfaces. ISAC, on the other hand, expands the communications networks into sensing networks. This benefits both communications and sensing via sensing giving tools for prediction and communications enabling massive sensing.
