ATTITUDE OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TOWARDS ENGLISH: BASIS FOR ACTION PLAN
Abstract
This study investigated the attitudes of senior high school students toward English in Pulong Gubat High School, Candaba, Pampanga during the school year 2024–2025. Using a quantitative-descriptive research design, the researchers examined students’ behavioral, cognitive, and affective attitudes and analyzed the relationship between their profile variables—academic strand and gender—and their attitudes toward English. The study involved 20 senior high school students, all enrolled in the Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) strand. Data were collected through a researcher-administered questionnaire and analyzed using frequency, percentage, weighted mean, and Chi-Square test at a 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed that students exhibited overall very favorable attitudes toward English across all three dimensions. Gender was significantly related to behavioral and affective attitudes but not to cognitive attitudes. Based on the findings, an action plan was proposed to further enhance positive attitudes toward English. The study highlights the critical role of fostering positive learner attitudes in achieving language proficiency and effective communication.
