Abstract

AbstractThis paper introduces the "Sage Trap" theory to explain why East Asian political systems exhibit an extreme tendency to collapse toward a centralized power core. The research finds that the collective cultural craving for "Rule by Sages" (聖人治世) prevents political power from flowing smoothly within institutional frameworks. Instead, power is constantly drawn toward an "all-knowing, all-powerful" individual will. This cultural DNA not only suffocates the survival space for Navigators but also provides fertile soil for the birth of Reshapers and Dictators.________________________________________Chapter I: The "Gravitational Collapse" of Sage Worship• 1.1 Sage vs. Contract: Distinguishing between Western "Contractual Politics" (based on the concept that all men are fallen/sinners) and East Asian "Redemptive Politics" (based on the pursuit of the flawless Sage).• 1.2 The Formation of the Power Black Hole: When the masses project their desire for "absolute correctness" onto a leader, any system of checks and balances becomes ineffective under the "Saintly Halo."• 1.3 Collective National Failure: The emergence of a dictator is not an individual victory, but a collective failure of a nation that chooses to surrender its soul out of a fear of chaos.Chapter II: Cross-Civilizational Contrast: Why Did Europe Escape the Trap?• 2.1 The "God" Placeholder: In the West, the attributes of being all-knowing and all-powerful were monopolized by God. Secular leaders were downgraded to "sinful mortals," and politics shifted from "Soul Alchemy" to "Administrative Management."• 2.2 Transcendental Checks: Because there existed an authority higher than Caesar, Europe was able to develop Individual Sovereignty, preventing power from collapsing into a black hole centered on a secular Sage.Chapter III: Japan’s "Soul Substitution" and the "Return of the Sage"• 3.1 Post-War Amendment: Japan’s post-war stability was essentially a "Soul Substitution," using the U.S. Government and Constitution to act as the missing "God," forcibly replacing the traditional East Asian "Sage Soul."• 3.2 The 2026 Awakening Crisis: The February 8th Japanese Election marks the summoning of the "Original Sage Soul." The challenge for Sanae Takaichi is: does she want to be a Conductor guiding evolution, or a new Reshaper of the soul in response to populist demand?Chapter IV: Survival Wisdom: Teacher-Student Dynamics as Risk Mitigation• 4.1 The Strategy of "Soft Power over Brute Force": Given that cultural DNA cannot be changed overnight, the best survival path for East Asian leaders is to "become a student."• 4.2 Case Analysis: Analyzing how Japanese leaders play the "Student" to Trump’s "Pioneer." By using external authority to "dilute" domestic Sage-worship, they secure a 20% Strategic Buffer for the nation.Chapter V: Conclusion: The Long Farewell to Sage Worship• 5.1 The Final Verdict: The modernization of East Asian politics lies not in finding a perfect Sage, but in the national soul’s ability to accept an "imperfect Navigator."• 5.2 Historical Warning: As long as the obsession with "Rule by Sages" remains, power will eternally oscillate between "clumsy mimicry" and "extreme dictatorship."________________________________________Final Thesis ConclusionThis paper reveals a cold truth: East Asian political dilemmas are essentially a cultural physiological dependence on "Deified Power."
