France. “ Lazer (entre Ventavon et Lavagne) ”, 1 June 1869, s. coll. s. n. (lectotype, designated here: GAP 065518!). In the protologue (Verlot 1872), a gathering by H. Gariod is mentioned. We found a couple of specimens collected by Gariod, in GAP and in BR. The latter specimen (BR 000000526922!) is less complete, so that we selected the specimen GAP 065518! as the lectotype. This specimen is complete and in good conservation condition and both fruits and corolla tubes are visible. All the original material match the protologue. Both specimens correspond to the description given in the protologue and confirm the current application of the name as P. nicaeensis subsp. gariodiana (McNeill 1968; Arrigoni 2014).
