Function Before Structure: Historical Precedents and Implications for Space-Phase Physics
Abstract
Physics has repeatedly accepted fundamental entities defined entirely by what they do, longbefore their internal structure was known, or even assumed to exist. This paper reviewsmultiple historical precedents—gravity, fields, temperature, the quantum wavefunction, superconductivity, and dark-sector cosmology—to show that functional definition is not aweakness but the dominant pathway by which physical reality enters science. Against thisbackdrop, the Space-Phase (SP3) framework is shown to be historically orthodox: itslegitimacy rests on measurable behavior, cross-scale consistency, and predictive closure, not premature structural speculation.
