Residential Unit as Fire Survival Capsule Design
Abstract
Current residential fire escape designs rely on stairs or evacuation routes, yet statistics show that the main cause of death in fires is smoke and toxicgas inhalation, not flames or high temperatures.Elderly, children, and mobility-impaired individuals often fail to escapein the initial stage of a fire.Stairways and escape routes are easily smoke-blocked, resulting in lowefficiency and high risk. Conclusion: Residential safety designs assuming “people must escape thebuilding” are not suitable for high-rise, high-density, or aging-populationresidences.
