PEDAGOGICAL STRATEGIES FOR PROMOTING INTEREST IN ENGLISH AMONG PRIMARY SCHOOL LEARNERS.
Abstract
This study explores pedagogical strategies aimed at promoting interest in English among primary school learners. Early engagement in language learning is crucial for developing long-term proficiency and positive attitudes toward the language. The research adopts a mixed-methods approach, including classroom observations, teacher interviews, and student surveys, to identify strategies that effectively capture young learners’ attention. Findings indicate that interactive activities, multimedia integration, collaborative tasks, and culturally relevant materials significantly enhance motivation and participation. Teachers’ attitudes, feedback, and adaptive instructional techniques are also critical in creating a supportive and stimulating learning environment. The study emphasizes that learner-centered approaches, such as games, storytelling, and project-based activities, not only improve linguistic competence but also foster curiosity and enjoyment in English learning. Moreover, the research highlights the importance of aligning teaching strategies with learners’ interests and developmental stages to sustain engagement. The implications of these findings provide valuable guidance for educators, curriculum designers, and policymakers, aiming to improve English instruction at the primary level. By implementing effective pedagogical strategies, schools can cultivate both language proficiency and a lifelong interest in learning English, ensuring a strong foundation for future academic success.
