Abstract

This paper, titled A Sword of Scarlet Red, delivers a visceral and unflinching critique of modern societal norms that deify labor, romanticize suffering, and alienate humans from their inherent freedom. It challenges the long-standing dogma—echoed by thinkers like Gorky—that "labor is the source of all good life," arguing instead that labor is a forced survival necessity, not a virtue, and that true liberation lies in freedom from labor. The work interrogates the distortion of Aristotle’s "contemplative life" by academic elites, who have reduced contemplation to a performative, status-driven pursuit rather than a state of authentic existence. It exposes the systemic violence of modern civilization: how laws, capital, and public opinion operate as "dull knives" to silence dissent, co-opt critics, and reduce humans to "fruit in a juicer" or "mind-raped prostitutes" in service of power and elites. Drawing on Zhuangzi’s parable of the "useless tree" and existentialist ideals, the paper advocates for the restoration of human dignity and the inalienable right to choose—whether to create, rest, or simply exist—free from the tyranny of "usefulness" and oppressive systems. It calls for a radical redefinition of morality, one centered on individual ease, freedom, and equality, rather than sacrificing the marginalized for the prosperity of the powerful.
