INFORMATION SCIENTISTS
Abstract
Information scientists have played a crucial role in the evolution of Information Retrieval Systems (IRS), transforming traditional information access into modern digital search technologies. Pioneers such as Vannevar Bush, Calvin Mooers, Hans Peter Luhn, Gerard Salton, Karen Sparck Jones, and others introduced concepts like indexing, vector space models, relevance ranking, and retrieval algorithms. Their contributions led to the development of efficient search engines and digital libraries, enabling users to retrieve relevant information quickly. Modern search systems and web retrieval technologies are built upon these foundational ideas, improving global access to knowledge.
