The article discusses phraseological combinations, their functions, semantic features and meanings in the Russian language system. Phraseological combinations represent not only a peculiar national and cultural layer of the language, they reflect the worldview of a given society, consolidate certain knowledge about the world around them, transfer life experience from generation to generation, cultural and historical traditions of the people.
